Something I find myself repeating a lot is "Show up for yourself." Perhaps not surprisingly, the Peloton instructors are REAL good with the motivational quotes and I actually find they're helpful?! (I also have the Jillian Michaels 30-Day Shred workout burned into my memory, and she used the "pain is fear leaving the body" quote... I believe in reference to crunches of some kind?)
It's SO cringe but also much needed?? Every time I find one I've put into a random document I stop and smile. And yes, I have done that JM workout and heard her shout that quote so many times, i didn't put that in here but I love that you knew the genesis!

I also got Bartlett's Familiar Quotations as a high-school graduation gift and for some reason this stuck with me as a young man heading off on his own after just buying his first real suit:
"Many a man has fallen in love with a girl in a light so dim he would not have chosen a suit by it."
My first-ever OBGYN appointment (which I was terrified for) had a poster on the ceiling (anyone who's had an obgyn appt. will know why) featuring a woman rock climbing and big block letters that said, "GIRLS ROCK!"

I can't attribute it to anyone I heard on the PGA channel on my Sirius XM in my car. I think it was the Valspar Golf Tournament. But don't quote me on that.

I remember motivating myself at the very beginning of 8th grade with a quote from the Smashing Pumpkins song "Cherub Rock": Stay cool and be somebody's fool this year.
So i tried to stay as cool as possible, but i wasn't anybody's fool that year (i always read that as "being somebody's fool means dating someone" which, looking back, perhaps isn't the healthiest) but I did make some good friends, so I guess that's a win. The really funny (and perhaps ironic) thing about taking that quote non-ironically is that Billy Corgan for sure MEANT it ironically.
In eighth grade I took a class that we called XLPE that was basically like advanced gym for the athletes. (Please tell me if this happened in any other school). I was a wrestler and sort of the odd one out in a group of skiers, swimmers, and runners. At the end of the semester, we all had to compete in a mini triathlon and for some reason our teacher found it very important to continually remind us that "Transition times are part of the race!" She said it all the time and me and my buddy repeated it behind her back as a weird joke between us. Now more than 20 years later "Transition times are part of the race" is still banging around in the back of my brain anytime I get frustrated with my process.
