My non-writer friends think it’s odd that I hate email/can take my time responding but I always say “every second I spend writing an email is a second I’m not using to write my own work” 🤷🏽‍♀️

Melissa Febos! I've been reading Body Work and every paragraph or so, there's something mind-blowing.

I've never left an OOO message on my email account, but this is making me want to! Why don't I? Probably because I don't feel the need to reply immediately anyway and also maybe because most of my personal correspondence from strangers and friends comes via DM or text. If I do get an email asking me to do something that I'm not able/willing to give my time to in the near future, I reply saying as much. The texts and DMs are an issue now that I'm hard at work on my MS and I wish there was an OOO feature on those!

That Melissa Febos article totally shifted my perspective re: emails (and other boundary-invasive tasks). Now I like to think I'm a little bit better about when I respond to things and how I respond, as well. And yay focus sessions! Love that idea!!
